Screening of “In the Name of Lithium” (Argentina, 2021) and debate between director Tian Cartier and panelists Dr. Laura Barbas Rhoden, Dr. Cissy Fowler, Dr. Esther Godfrey and Dr. Julie Sexeny from Wofford and USC Upstate. The documentary features the present struggle of Argentine indigenous communities to preserve their salars, one of the biggest lithium reserves of the world. As the efforts to reduce climate change focus in energy transition through lithium batteries, the film presents the worldview of the indigenous communities and their actions to defend their territory and to prevent them from becoming a sacrificial zone for mining companies. The public is welcome. Film is in Spanish with English subtitles.
