7th Annual BAMA Turkey Shoot At Toney Creek Plantation
November 20, 2021@8:00 am-3:00 pm
Try your skill at bagging a turkey just in time for Thanksgiving at the sixth annual BAMA Turkey Shoot event to be held Nov. 20, from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm at the beautiful upland game preserve Toney Creek Plantation.
Hosted by the Belton Area Museum Association, the event is free to attend and family-friendly, with activities for all ages. Registration begins at 8:30 AM at the scenic upland hunting preserve. The last shoot will be around 1 pm.
“This old-fashioned event has been updated with a modern twist,” said Abigail Burden, BAMA Executive Director. “We’re making this test of skill accessible to everyone by using shotguns and targets. No live turkeys will be harmed in this contest.”
In the adult division (over 12), participants can purchase turkey targets for $5 and $10, depending on the value of the prize being shot for during the round. There will be at least 10 shooting rounds throughout the day, some for adults and some for children. Shotguns and ammunition will be provided for all participants or you can use your own gun after inspection.
In the children’s division, those 8 – 12 can purchase a turkey target too. The target will be set up at a shorter distance for their rounds.
Winners for great prizes will compete in each round, so you can come and go throughout the day’s event. There is no limit to the number of targets participants can purchase and a running board of top scorers will be posted continuously throughout the afternoon for a grand prize winner to be named.
Several great prizes are being offered per round, and winners will take home meat prizes such as turkeys, sausage, and hams and other hunting related and outdoor themed prizes like CWP class passes, decoys and calls, ammo, shooting range passes, a camping table, a name-brand cooler, promotional items, pressure washer, and wine-ing and dining gift certificates.
“Instruction in shooting is available from linesman Jody Ivester, so even novice shooters are encouraged to participate,” stated Burden.
The event will start off with a farmhouse breakfast. A full course meal consisting of biscuits, sausage, eggs, grits, and coffee/juice is available for purchase of $8. Toney Creek Plantation will begin serving at 8:30 AM.
At 12:30 PM, the Mercantile will be offering two-fer hotdog plates that will also include slaw, chips, pecan pie, and drinks, all for $10 per plate.
The seventh annual BAMA Turkey Shoot event is being sponsored by Waste Connections, Vulcan, SouthState Bank, National Wild Turkey Federation, Jarod Haggard/Concealed Weapons Class, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Anderson County, B and B Pawn, Ace Hardware of Williamston and Honea Path, Ingles Market, Bi-Lo, the Gourmet Pecan Man, and McCall’s Produce. All proceeds benefit the Belton Area Museum Association in support of their educational and cultural programming.
