    Mozart’s Don Giovanni

    April 22, 2022@8:00 pm-11:00 pm

Furman Lyric Theatre presents Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni, sung in Italian with  English supertitles, on Friday, April 22 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. Mozart’s Don Giovanni will be performed in it’s original Prague version by an all undergraduate cast of singers and orchestra members in Italian with English supertitles. This is a rare opportunity for the Furman students to hear this monumental work on campus. We have a professional conductor, harpsichord player, professional sets, costumes and lighting to bring this story to life.

Keith Chamber (conductor) is a guest musician across the world. Keith Chambers has conducted over 150 performances of 50 different operas for companies including The Dallas Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Shreveport Opera, Asheville Lyric Opera, Opera Ithaca, New Amsterdam Opera, Amarillo Opera, and First Coast Opera, among others.  He has served as Cover and/or Assistant Conductor for over 40 different operas and has assisted noted conductors Emmanuel Villaume, Patrick Summers, Willie Anthony Waters, and Riccardo Frizza, among others.  He is currently the Principal Guest Conductor of Manhattan Opera Studio and the Founder & Artistic Director of New Amsterdam Opera.

Grant Knox (stage director) is Associate Professor of Music, Director of the Furman Lyric Theatre and Coordinator of Vocal Activities at Furman University in Greenville, SC.  In the 2016/2017 academic year, he was the recipient of Furman’s Meritorious Teaching Award. He has been featured on several commercial recordings of rarely heard operettas for the Albany Records Label. Dr. Knox’s students populate young artist programs, training programs and graduate programs throughout the country. Most recently his former students have won young artist positions at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Palm Beach Opera, Chautauqua (both the opera company and voice program), Madison Opera, and the Ohio Light Opera. He consistently has winners at all levels of the NATS competition including several national winners and semi-finalists. He has also had first prize winners and finalists in the Classical Singer Competition.
