This mind-blowing spectacular showcases the jaw-dropping talents of five of the most incredible illusionists on Earth. The Illusionists – Live From Broadway dazzles audiences of all ages with a powerful mix of the most outrageous and astonishing acts ever to be seen on stage.

Audiences will witness stunning acts of grand illusion, levitation, mind-reading, and disappearance. This group of world-class performers take their cue from the showmanship of the great illusionists of the past – such as Harry Houdini – and pair it with a new and updated contemporary aesthetic, with set and costume design that lend the genre a theatricality and artistry that has rarely been seen before. Collectively, these performers have been seen by millions of people around the world, and this production showcases their incredible talents together on stage.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Dance Theatre of Harlem will lead three workshops to fit each experience level. The workshops will include a ballet-based warm-up with exercises that focus on stretching, strengthening, placement, coordination, agility, and musicality, as well as an exploration of dance themes and phrases that are developed into across-the-floor movement combinations.

All shoes are dancing shoes, and everyone is a dancer when Dance Theatre of Harlem brings dancing to the streets to kick-off Artisphere weekend! Join us on Graham Plaza as two dancers from this ground-breaking, empowering ballet company demo and lead you through easy to learn steps that prove anyone can dance. The Young Artist Orchestra and The Philharmonic finish out the season with flair.  YAO timpanist Will Harris will be flinging his marimba mallets on Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra!

At 75 years young, Jeanne Robertson continues to charm audiences with humorous observations about life around her. Standing tall at six-foot-two, this former Miss North Carolina has a vivacious personality, heart, and sense of humor.

Robertson tours nationally and appears regularly at the Grand ‘Ole Opry. She has eight nationally released DVDs, three books, hundreds of hours on SiriusXM satellite radio, and over 56 million YouTube views. The demand for Robertson's family-friendly and engaging brand of comedy has grown exponentially. It’s been nearly a decade since Dawes first emerged from Southern California, carrying with them a roots-rock sound that nodded to the past – including the West Coast folksingers and cosmic country-rockers who chased a similar muse during the 1970s – while still pushing forward.

Over the years that followed their debut, the band evolved and electrified. The grooves deepened. The amplifiers grew louder. Once known for their honest approach to classic sounds, Dawes grew into something different: a forward-thinking, boundary-pushing band for the 21st century, willing to follow inspiration wherever it leads. On the group’s sixth album, Passwords, that inspiration pulls guitarist/singer Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, bassist Wylie Gelber, and keyboardist Lee Pardini into their most universal, topical territory to date.

Peace Interludes are FREE music appreciation gatherings that unpack the rich traditions and diverse styles of great composers. Each month will feature a unique composer and drink pairing, providing a multi-sensory sip, listen, and learn experience that highlights a musical period.

In the spirit of progress and innovation from the beginning of the 20^th century, contemporary music pushed boundaries and performance venues. Reflecting the variety of surrealism, pop art, and abstract expressionism in visual art, music branched out with the birth of jazz, Yiddish theater, vaudeville, and Broadway. Join us for tapping feet and jazz hands!

Master Classes give students and developing writers the chance to learn from professional poets prior to a Poetic Conversation. Each master class is a unique and intimate experience shaped by each artist, their writing process, and their work.

How do we speak of place? Are lineage and place geographical, cultural, emotional, and spiritual? Alicia Jo Rabins and Kevin Coval are privy to the traditions, rituals, and struggles of being Jewish Americans. Rabins is a writer, musician, composer, performer, and Torah teacher. Her work explores the intersection of ancient wisdom texts with everyday life. Coval is a poet and community builder. As the artistic director of Young Chicago Authors, founder of Louder Than A Bomb, and professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago—where he teaches hip-hop aesthetics—he’s mentored thousands of young writers, artists, and musicians. These poets stem from very different literary traditions, but both have so much to contribute about lineage and place and how they write about it.

Gibson will read from her novel, Beyond the Point, and then participate in a Q&A with the audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception in Furman Hall 217.

Beyond the Point” is set at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where three women—a nationally-ranked point guard, the granddaughter of an Army general and a rebellious Homecoming Queen—are brought together in a story of friendship, heartbreak and resilience.

Copies of the book, published by HarperCollins, will be available at the event and at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus.

You’ll never think of the tuba the same way again after experiencing the jaw-dropping artistry of the internationally-renowned tuba player, Velvet Brown and her unforgettable rendition of John Williams’ brilliant Tuba Concerto.

The Day the World Came to Town is the inspiring true story of the small town of Gander, Canada and the goodwill of its residents. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, 38 jetliners bound for the United States were rerouted for Gander International Airport on the island of Newfoundland. Gander residents greeted stranded passengers with overwhelming kindness, providing for their needs and creating friendships that will last a lifetime.

Peace Voices Adult Writing Workshops offer a place to create for everyone from experienced writers to beginners. Workshops are led by Glenis Redmond, who guides participants as they tell their own stories through the craft of poetry.

Avital meets Avital is a dialogue between two musicians who originate from different worlds but share a common richness of musical heritage. Grammy^®-nominee mandolinist Avi Avital comes from a classical tradition whilst award-winning bass virtuoso and oud player Omer Avital is an acclaimed jazz performer and composer. Avital meets Avital draws on the diverse influences of Moroccan and North African sounds, folkloric and classical traditions, and Israeli harmonies and Mediterranean rhythms, creating a musical melting pot where the finesse of chamber music meets the raw emotional energy of jazz.

Avi Avital was the first mandolin soloist to be nominated for a classical Grammy® Award. Omer Avital has been named “one of the most exciting musicians to come onto the jazz scene in the last 20 years” (DownBeat). Together, their music uncovers their shared past in a creative blend of Moroccan beats, Israeli harmonies, classical sensibility, and jazz improvisation. It’s also a meeting of two musical backgrounds: the classically-trained Avi “meets” the jazz-trained Omer; tradition meets modernism; East meets West. The result is a “foot-stomping, hip-swaying jazz and Middle Eastern fusion” (Gramophone) that tells a story of self-discovery that is as intimately personal as it is universal.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Peace Center welcomes Jacqueline Woodson, 2018-19 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Woodson’s New York Times bestselling memoir, Brown Girl Dreaming,won the 2014 National Book Award, the Coretta Scott King Award, a Newbery Honor, and the NAACP Image Award. Brown Girl Dreaming reflects on Woodson’s time spent in Greenville’s African-American area of Nicholtown as a child and revisits the clash of the civil rights era from a young person’s perspective. This homecoming will focus on the power of poetry and dreams.

The Chorale’s Spring Concert will feature choral versions of well-known orchestral works: “Largo” from Dvorak’s New World Symphony, “Nimrod” from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and “Adagio for Strings,” by Samuel Barber.  The program will also include some entertaining “choral humor” by various composers, along with a showcase performance by one of the Upstate’s premier high school choirs.

Sip Champagne, Savor Delights and Experience a One Hour Evening of Contemporary Ballet & Conversations from Choreographers in our Studios. The Studio Series provides an intimate setting to experience contemporary dance. This unique one hour of ballet, bubbly and sweets is a talked about Ballet Spartanburg event. Bold, unique contemporary pieces choreographed by McCree 0’Kelly, the late Salvatore Aiello staged by Mia Cunningham with permission by Jerri Kumery and Ballet Spartanburg’s Company will be showcased.
