Join the Speaking Down Barriers team for the monthly book club, Reading for Transformation. Engage with readings that will guide you towards a holistic understanding of the transformation that must take place within yourselves and the world around you. The club is working towards the dismantling of the barriers that continue to perpetuate violence, hate, and division. These various insights will broaden your perspective and lead you towards meaningful confrontation. For your convenience, the book club will meet at the Hub City Bookshop on the 4th Monday of each month at two separate times: 12:00 PM-1:00 PM, 7:00 PM-8:00 PM. The Nutcracker has been a Spartanburg Beloved Holiday Tradition for 28 years. If you have not experienced Ballet Spartanburg's Nutcracker, you have not experienced the beauty and the spectacular version created by Carlos Agudelo. Over 100 dancers will fill Twichell's stage with incredible costumes and a magnificent Christmas tree which grows before your very eyes.

The familiar story of Ebenezer Scrooge will be recast as a stage musical this December at Spartanburg Methodist College.“Mr. Scrooge!” a modern and occasionally whimsical take on the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,” will be presented at SMC on December 6 and December 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Gibbs Auditorium of Ellis Hall. The public is invited and the performance is free. The musical features a variety of styles, from rock to salsa, without losing the original story’s meaning or leaving Dickens purists upset.
