A Little Bit Country Exhibit


“A Little Bit Country” is an exhibit at the Belton Depot which examines the meaning of “country” historically and currently.  Vintage or antique items on display include a wagon, buggy,mule collars, saddles, chicken coop, rabbit hutch,bee hive, small farm equipment and implements, hit-or-miss engine, water pump, quilts, baskets, wooden ladder, old carpentry tools, outhouse (clean of course!), blacksmithing items, photographs of country scenes, and musical instruments used by country music players.  Country also means “Grandma’s kitchen,” so vintage Pyrex dishes and bowls, a pie safe, rolling pin, biscuit cutter, aprons, recipes and cookbooks, and kitchen decor will be displayed.

Tacos ‘n’ Tequila Fiesta

Healthy Laughter


The Links Incorporated presents the “Healthy Laughter (HL) Comedy Tour” featuring creator of the HL brand, award-winning comedian Comedian Akintunde (BET, TBN, TBS) and co-hosted by Sybil Wilkes (co-host of The Tom Joyner Morning Show), with comedian Tony Tone and Nikita B on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Healthy Laughter utilizes a live stand-up comedy event to promote healthcare and healthy lifestyle choices via discounted comedy show tickets, free on-site health screenings, and a healthy talk panel discussion with Q&A for attendees.

Symphonic Winds Concert


Just a few short weeks after leading the Furman Symphonic Winds in a performance at New York’s historic Carnegie Hall, Leslie W. Hicken will conduct the ensemble in its annual spring concert. The concert, which is open to the public, marks the end of Hicken’s 26-year career as director of bands in Furman’s Department of Music. Tickets for the Sound Quality Concert Series event are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 60 and older, and $5 for students.

The program includes works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Aram Khachaturian, Percy Aldridge Grainger, John Williams, John Philip Sousa, Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, Furman Director of Athletic Bands Jay Bocook, Ottorino Resphigi and Henry Fillmore.

For the second half of the program, Furman alumni will join Hicken onstage to perform with the Symphonic Winds. The concert also marks the last performance on campus for the graduating band members of the Class of 2019.

Upcycled Art Show


Local artists will be tasked with selecting a piece of furniture from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and revamping it. The finished pieces will be on display throughout Drayton Mills MarketPlace and in the Grand Hall. All are welcome to peruse the campus to view and bid on the pieces in a silent auction. The evening will conclude with an announcement of the winners of the silent auction as well as a live auction hosted by ReStore Manager, Joe Walker. All money raised from the auctions will go to Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg.

While onsite for the show, enjoy dinner at Pi-Squared or The Standard, a cup of coffee at Bella Latte, or a craft beer at Holliday Brewing.

15th Annual Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Criterium

Rent a tent, bring your friends, and load up your tailgating gear to watch cyclists race around the half-mile downtown course. "The Crit" is a part of the USA CRITS Speed Week series and is known for it's open-air plaza center, dangerously sharp left turns and unique atmosphere!

Temptations & The Four Tops

THE TEMPTATIONS
The TEMPTATIONS are notable for their success with Motown Records during the 60’s and 70’s and have sold 10’s of millions of albums, making them one of the most successful groups in music history!

For over 40 years The Temptations have prospered, with an avalanche of smash hits, and sold-out performances throughout the world! Beyond their unique blend of voices and flashy wardrobe, The Temptations became known for their sharp choreography known as “The Temptation Walk” which became a staple of American style, flair, flash and class and one of the defining legacies of Motown Records.  Millions of fans saw their Temptations as cultural heroes.  The group had thirty seven, Top 40 hits to their credit, including fifteen Top 10 hits and a quartet which soared to No. 1. on the R &B charts.  They have fifteen No. 1 singles, and seventeen No. 1 albums.  The titles alone summon memories beyond measure: “The Way You Do The Things You Do,” “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” “I Wish It Would Rain,”  “I Can’t Get Next To You”, “Get Ready”, “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” “Ball of Confusion”, “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone.” “Beauty is Only Skin Deep”, “Cloud Nine,” “Psychedelic Shack”, “Runaway Child”, “Since I Lost My Baby”, and into the 80’s with “Treat Her Like a Lady”… and many more… For always, the Temptations are sunshine on a cloudy day……

The Temptations were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

 

The FOUR TOPS

The FOUR TOPS were among a number of groups, who established the Motown Sound heard around the world during the 1960’s.  Their first Motown hit, ‘Baby I Need Your Loving’ in 1964, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of the decade. Their no. 1 hit songs include; ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)’, and “It’s The Same Old Song” . Their commercial peak was highlighted by a romantic trilogy; the no. 1 hit “Reach Out I’ll Be There”, “Standing In The Shadows Of Love” and “Bernadette”. Other top hits included; “Baby I Need Your Loving”,  “Ask The Lonely”, “Shake Me, Wake Me (When It’s Over)”, “Something About You”, “You Keep Running Away” and “7-Rooms Of Gloom”.

The group’s popularity endured in the ’70s and into the ’80s with hits such as “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I’ve Got)” and “When She Was My Girl” making them one of the few groups to have hits in three consecutive decades.

 

In 1990, with 24 Top 40 pop hits to their credit, the Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

Limestone College Student Recitals

On Sunday, March 31st, senior percussionist Hayden Osborne and sophomore vocalists Mikayla McCleaf and Valerie Turner will present a joint music recital at 3:00 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium. The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Greenville Downtown Saturday Market

On Saturday mornings from the beginning of May until the end of October, two blocks of downtown Greenville’s Main Street are transformed into a bustling farmers' market. The market features over 75 vendors selling the season’s freshest produce and the area’s most original and high quality crafts.  Each week thousands of people flock to the TD Saturday Market for locally-sourced products where all food must be grown or produced within 100 miles of Greenville and crafters are highly-encouraged to use locally-sourced supplies.

When the market launched in 2003, downtown Greenville was just beginning to flourish. The market was located on a small side street and was comprised of roughly 20 vendors. Attendance was low during the market’s infancy, however, as word spread and Main Street’s popularity as a destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment grew, so did the market’s attendance.  In 2007, the market relocated to Main Street. Now, about to enter its 17th season in May, the market offers exciting programming, including live music, children’s activities and chef’s demonstrations sponsored by partnerships with local organizations.

The 3 Wise Guys – Comedy Show

Upstate Senior Issues Workshop


As part of the Ten at the Top Senior Issues Committee's stated goal of being intentional about addressing senior needs, this workshop will look at the issue of food access for seniors. According to SC's Council on Aging, 20% of South Carolinians over the age of 60 are food insecure, so the barriers that seniors face in accessing nutritious food need to be identified and removed. Our panelists will cover a range of topics relating to this issue.

This is the second of four workshops to be hosted over the course of 2019. The purpose is to educate and raise awareness to a variety of community stakeholders. This will create an opportunity to begin a much larger discussion of senior issues at a regional level.

Upstate Air Quality Advisory Committee Meeting

Help us recognize National Air Quality Awareness Week (April 29-May 3) by joining us for the 2019 Upstate Air Quality Advisory Committee meeting.This meeting is open to anyone interested in air quality efforts in the Upstate.

We will get an update from DHEC on the 2018 air quality monitor numbers as well as their current air quality programs. We will also learn about several sustainability initiatives happening around the region.

Hoppy Easter Egg Hunt is a family event held in Vance Park @ 198 W. Florida Street. The event hosts egg hunts for various age groups, games, kid-friendly entertainment, popcorn, food and fun for the entire family.

Rhythm on the Rails

Rhythm on the Rails is Downtown Clinton's signature spring event that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides and lots of great music. In addition, we also offer family friendly entertainment along our many streets of downtown.

The event has more than doubled in participation in the last 4 years and has become a family favorite in Historic Clinton.  The City of Clinton also proudly hosts a SBN sanctioned BBQ event, Smokin' on the Rails, in conjuction with the festival.
