Exhibit Description: The annual South Carolina Festival of Flowers moves into its 52nd year in June 2019. The juried art show is a sanctioned event hosted annually by The Arts Center of Greenwood, in conjunction with the festival. The show will feature artwork from artists all over South Carolina and portions of the southeast with monetary awards totaling $2,600.

Wofford College's Dr. Peter Brewitt will visit Hub City Bookshop to discuss his book Same River Twice.

Dam removal was not a realistic option in the twentieth century, and people who suggested it were dismissed as radical dreamers. Over the past twenty years, dam removal has become increasingly common, with dozens of removals now taking place each year nationwide.

How did this happen? Same River Twiceanswers this question by telling the stories of three major Northwestern dam removals—the politics, people, hopes, and fears that shaped three rivers and their communities. Author Peter Brewitt begins each story with the dam’s construction, shows how its critics gained power, details the conflicts and controversies of removal, and explores the aftermath as the river re-established itself.

Peter Brewitt received his PhD in environmental studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he focused on environmental policy. He is now a professor at Wofford College.

26 Pebbles, a theatrical performance of Lander University, will be performed each night at Greenwood Community Theatre in Uptown Greenwood.

The story behind 26 Pebbles:
On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed twenty-six innocent souls before taking his own life. These twenty-six innocent deaths, like pebbles thrown into a pond, created ripples and vibrations that were felt far beyond the initial rings. This is the story of those vibrations.

Those dining with us will enjoy a unique dinner carefully crafted by well-known Spartanburg chefs William and Jamie Cribb with wine pairings by Greg Atkins. The chefs will source local ingredients from their friends at Full Circle Farm, Lilly Mae Organics, and Colonial Milling. Featured on the menu will be grass-fed, sustainably raised beef from Thicketty Mountain Farm, Spartanburg’s only organic cattle farm, whose home is SPACE’s own Cleveland Preserve Farm. Every seat will be a seat at the chef's table as guests enjoy a spectacularly paired farm-to-table experience. Local musician, Janeen Scott will play while guests enjoy their meal. SPACE is grateful for our many supporters, the Bonnamoo dinner is presented by Pacolet Milliken and sponsored by the Johnson Group.

Following the dinner, guests are invited to mosey down the hill to enjoy a live performance by the Shane Pruitt Band, a Spartanburg favorite whose music embodies a regional tradition of blues and gospel while bringing its original tone and flare to every performance. Once the stage is warmed up, musical headliners Southern Culture On The Skids (SCOTS) will take the stage! SCOTS has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, and their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock-and-roll.

This meeting is intended for leaders of organizations or departments involved in the food system, but everyone is welcome. We need your input on what is working and not working in regards to accessing healthy and local food in Spartanburg County.

Enjoy an evening of song focused on the sheer joy of dance in all its many styles & languages. Featuring music by Mark Patterson, John Leavitt, Tawn Thomas, Stephen Hatfield, Stacy Gibbs and many others. Performed by the Greenville Chamber Singers, an auditioned four-part women's ensemble that performs throughout the southeast.

Ready for LOADS OF FUN? Spring Fling, covering SEVERAL City blocks, is the Upstate's largest street festival. The 3-day event brings 115,000+ people downtown for the music, food, shopping, kids rides, and tons of special attractions. Exhibit Description: The South Carolina Festival of Flowers Juried Youth Art Show was established in 2015, as a sanctioned event in coincidence with the festival, with funding attributed to an established endowment in the name of the late, Virginia Self. The annual show will be on display in the Reception Hall at The Arts Center from May 23 - June 8, 2018 with an opening reception scheduled for Thursday, May 31 @ 5 - 6:30 pm for all included entrants. Entry forms will be posted here at a later date.

The Latest Thing in Spartanburg is a live late-night talk show that celebrates (and pokes fun at) all things local! Venezuelan progressive metal guitarist Felix Martin “makes one of the most overwrought genres sound natural and digestible as ever, and through nothing more than ambitious-- but logical-- songwriting” (Sputnik Music) Martin (featuring Hedras) will be embarking on a national tour along with “progressive tech-metal master class”guitarist Sarah Longfield in celebration of the release of his new album, “Caracas!”

Moviegoers can enjoy watching a variety of classic film favorites under the stars at the City of Greenville’s Fidelity Investments Moonlight Movies. The free series returns to Falls Park Wednesday evenings in May for a five-week run. The films begin at sundown, but moviegoers are invited to come early for prime viewing spots and to participate in movie-themed trivia. Food vendor Poppington’s Gourmet Popcorn will be on-site every Wednesday and food trucks will rotate throughout the season. Individuals consuming alcohol at the event must purchase a $1 wristband.

In the 1994 film, The Little Rascals, mischievous youngsters lead an anti-girl organization, and they pick their buddy to represent them in an all-important soapbox car rally.

John Hunt from MarketNsight will present data illustrating how first-time home-buying millennials and down-sizing baby boomers are more than willing to give up home and lot size in exchange for living closer to amenities. The presentation will include local and national data, and how developers and home builders can use this data to develop competitive products that meet the needs of the community.

Missing Middle Housing
Tony Perez from Opticos Design, a nationally recognized architecture and urban design firm, will share about missing middle home types, which can help build “hidden density” that supports local businesses and public transportation. The presentation will cover benefits and challenges of this housing strategy.
