Join us for a special ARTalk, Mixtape Series: Music-Inspired Art Making with Nick Burns in our conference room on Tuesday, September 13th from 6-7 PM for an ARTalk demo with Brandon Fellow alum, Nick Burns (Ninja Picasso). Through a live painting demonstration of his Mixtape Series: Music-Inspired Art Making, Nick’s techniques and art practice will be on full display.
Art can provide an important intellectual and emotional outlet when the artist and the audience face personal and social challenges. After 2 years of an anemic social environment due to a challenging global crisis, privatization has trumped community in many respects. This process has been visually hallmarked by face coverings, which, while vital to public health, also represent the suppression of social interaction contributing to emotional isolation. In Unmasked, printmakers reintroduce themselves to society through self-portraits. Participants were asked to create a self-portrait that is recognizable yet not necessarily realistic. These portraits range in print media, from relief prints of woodcut and linoleum to intaglio and lithography.
Join us for the Grand Opening celebration of USC Upstate’s Upstate Crime Analysis Center (UCAC). The UCAC will serve both law enforcement and the public as we strive together to collect and understand social and crime data, prevent crime and enhance safety in the Upstate, and further evidence-based policing.
The celebration is scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday, September 9th, 2022 at USC Upstate’s Greenville Campus at the University Center of Greenville.
